What it does mean to be poor?

Sam Jones presents at Inclusive Growth in Mozambique project seminar series: What it does mean to be poor?

Sam Jones, development economist and UNU-WIDER research fellow presents in a seminar on 15 August at the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo.

The presentation is based on a working paper by Jones and Inge Tvedten, where they analyze the relationship between economic (quantitative) and anthropological (qualitative) approaches to the analysis of poverty in developing countries. Drawing on detailed evidence from Mozambique, the researchers argue that different research approaches do not merely see the same poverty from different angles; rather, they tend to conceptualize poverty differently.

This seminar is part of the seminar series, organized by the Inclusive Growth in Mozambique programme. The series will run throughout the year, and it aims to build research capacity among Mozambican research partners.
