Parallel session
Climate change

Even though energy systems are changing, greenhouse gases will continue to accumulate in the atmosphere for some time. Global average temperatures are now approximately one degree Celsius greater than in preindustrial times with substantial future warming already baked into the climate system.

While climate models have reasonably accurately predicted temperature rises, the sensitivity of the earth system to temperature rise may have been underestimated provoking calls for limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

This session will assess recent evidence, including work undertaken as part of the DUCC – Development under Climate Change project, and consider the implications of ongoing climate change for the development prospects of low- and middle-income countries.
