Public Economics Winter School 2017

The University of Pretoria will hold from 3-7 July 2017 the second Winter School – one of the key events in the public economics capacity building initiative managed by GTAC on behalf of the National Treasury.

The programme of the Winter School gathers high-level public economics thinkers to strengthen graduate training and research in public economics and public policy.

The three themes selected for the 2017 edition are:

  • Tax design and tax policy
  • Housing and urban development
  • The role of the state in financial markets

On 3 July 2017 UNU-WIDER researchers contributed to the programme on different topics. Director Finn Tarp provided a keynote address on African development, Chief Economist and Deputy Director Tony Addison presented on extractives industries, and Non-Resident Senior Research Fellow Jukka Pirttilä shared recent empirical lessons on tax and development.
