Conference programme and presentations

The full conference programme will be posted on the conference website. All conference presentations, made available by presenters, will also be posted on the website after the conference. There will be no paper copies available at the conference.
 
Presentations should be sent by email to presentation@wider.unu.edu in advance by 30 June 2017. Please name your presentation in the following form: Lastname_firstname.ppt (for a PowerPoint presentation) or Lastname_firstname.pdf (for an Adobe Acrobat presentation). Please also bring a copy of your presentation along with you to the conference.
 
Posters will be brought to the conference venue by UNU-WIDER unless otherwise agreed with the presenters. The poster session will take place on 5 July 14:30-15:30.
 
All conference participants are invited to a seminar organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), and the Tax Authority (AT) of Mozambique and the Finnish Embassy in Maputo to mark the 100th anniversary of Finland’s independence. The topic of the seminar is Tax and development: What can we learn from the Finnish experience? The event takes place at the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre on 7 July 2017 from 8:30 to 11:30 followed by a light lunch from 11:30 to 12:30. Transportation from the airport to the hotel

Travel from the airport to the hotel on arrival to Mozambique should be arranged by the traveller.
 
Only use official taxis (yellow and green ones). The taxis should have a tariff list with most popular hotels and destinations. You should expect to pay approximately 700-800 meticais (10-12 dollars) to travel between the airport and the the hotel.
Venue and registration

The conference will take place at the premises of the Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre, 4441 Avenida Marginal, Maputo, Mozambique
 
During the conference days, registration takes place at the registration desk located next to the main entrance. On 5 June registration opens at 8:15. Upon registration, participants will be given a name badge, which must be worn for security reasons throughout the conference during the sessions and meal times.
 
There is no registration fee for this event.
Meals

Lunches and coffee will be served on both conference days.
 
The conference dinner on 5 July at 19:00 takes place at the VIP Grand Maputo hotel located on Avenida 25 de Setembro – approximately 5 km from the venue. If we have not reserved the hotel for you (and you are not entitled to travel support) please arrange your own transport there.
 
If you registered by 26 June your dietary restrictions and requirements have been communicated to the catering services for their action.
Security

Please check the security advice for travelling to Mozambique from your country’s state department or foreign ministry.

Health and vaccinations

It is the traveller’s responsibility to obtain all the needed vaccinations and medication for travel. Please consult your doctor.
 
Information on required vaccines and the need for malaria medication in Mozambique can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.
Insurance

Travellers are requested to arrange their own insurance coverage.
 
As an exception, participants holding a valid UNU-WIDER individual consultancy contract (not an institutional contract), will receive an emergency medical insurance policy for the official duration of travel at the expense of the Institute. This insurance does not cover personal belongings, such as luggage. We strongly recommend arranging your own insurance coverage for the travel whether you have an individual consultancy contract with UNU-WIDER or not.

Weather

July is a winter month in Mozambique and the weather is dry and mild.
 
The temperature average during the day in July is 23 Celsius degrees, but can drop closer to 10°C during the night. It is recommended to take along warmer clothing.
