Using administrative tax data for research in Uganda: meeting of project collaborators

The workshop brought together around 20 participants, including researchers and staff members from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), UNU-WIDER, the Southern African Social Policy Research Institute (SASPRI), and the University of Makerere to discuss ongoing work on the use of administrative data obtained from tax authorities in Uganda. Discussion topics included the research themes – personal income tax, presumptive tax, and taxing multinationals in Uganda – and tax-benefit microsimulation.

The participants updated each other on the progress of their respective research projects, learnt about the topics and methods employed by their colleagues, and talked about any challenges they are facing in their research and possible solutions to those challenges.

The workshop was organized by UNU-WIDER jointly with URA and funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
