This year, the Global Development Conference focuses on Tax Policy for Sustainable Development. UNU-WIDER research will be presented at the following sessions:

Data, tax policy-making and SDGs (Panel 1.3) - Wednesday, 2 November at 11:30 (UTC+1)

Mazhar Waseem, Associate Professor of Economics, University of Manchester, joins a panel hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to discuss the UNU-WIDER and Uganda Revenue Authority secure research data lab.

Domestic resource mobilization and governance (Panel 4.2) - Friday 4 November at 9:00 (UTC+1)

Antonio Savoia, Non-Resident Senior Research Fellow at UNU-WIDER presents the WIDER Working Paper Constraints on the executive and tax revenues in the long run.

The presentations and sessions by UNU-WIDER are part of our Domestic Revenue Mobilization (DRM) programme, financed by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). UNU-WIDER is also present at the conference exhibition.

About the conference

The Global Development Conference is being co-hosted by the Global Development Network (GDN), the Foundation for Studies and Research on International Development (FERDI), the Center for Studies and Research on International Development (CERDI), and the University of Clermont Auvergne.

The conference targets 500 participants, drawn from a diverse group of researchers, evaluators, policymakers, representatives of international organizations, civil society, development practitioners and the private sector. The majority of the participants come from from developing countries.

Beyond resource mobilization, the conference is an investigation of the role tax systems can play across the three traditional objectives of policy: Resource allocation, stabilization aftershocks, and how to correct inequalities through redistribution.
