Ceremony to deliver the findings of the 2017 Myanmar Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Survey


On 28 August the results and outcomes of the 2017 ‘Myanmar Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Survey’ were presented at a ceremony in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. High-level representatives from several ministries in Myanmar as well as other stakeholders gathered to discuss the key findings and policy recommendations of the survey.

The ceremony was opened by The Honourable Myint Swe, First Vice-President of Myanmar, who thanked the Danish Embassy and UNU-WIDER for financial and technical support. Welcoming remarks were delivered by Dr Than Myint, Minister of Commerce of Myanmar and Ms Dorte Chorsten, Acting Ambassador of Denmark to Myanmar.

The Director General of the Central Statistical Organisation of Myanmar, Dr Wah Wah Maung and the Director of UNU-WIDER, Professor Finn Tarp presented the key results and policy implications of the survey.

The survey is part of the project ‘Towards Inclusive Development in Myanmar’ initiated by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) of the Ministry of Planning and Finance of Myanmar, and is supported financially by the Government of Denmark. The United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), and and the Development Economics Research Group (DERG) at the University of Copenhagen provide technical collaboration. The project aims to strengthen evidence-based policy-making and analysis and help underpin Myanmar’s move through a challenging structural transformation and development process.
